OpenAI ships GPT-6 Astra and declares the AGI era, while independent benchmarks disagree
The launch claim and the independent numbers are two different stories, and both are checkable in public. Astra is built to act inside software rather than advise, which is the part that matters if you are automating your own workflow.
OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra on 3 September and president Greg Brockman told reporters "Welcome to the AGI era". OpenAI's own table puts Astra at 99.9 percent on ARC-AGI-3 against 30.2 for Opus 5, while ARC's own harness measures about 62.7 percent and Artificial Analysis scores Astra 61, level with GPT-5.6 Sol and behind Fable 5.1 at 66.
CONVOIn recruiter calls and interviews, the sharp line is that the vendor number and the independent number differ by roughly 37 points on the same test, so ask which one a company is budgeting against.
